Your identity
Most internet fraud happens because card details are stolen in the real world and used online, so keep your cards and information about them safe. It's always a good idea to:
- check your statements when they arrive. Let us know right away if you see a suspect transaction
- keep a copy of your order forms and order confirmations when you shop online, as well as retailers' terms and conditions, just in case you need to query something
Using shared computers
If you're using a computer in a library, internet café or even at work, make sure you're not being watched and avoid changing your security details on a public computer, because it can be possible for others to access them after you have gone. Don't use a computer if you are in any way suspicious about it or its location.
It's also a good idea if you:
- change passwords and PINs regularly
- use a shredder to destroy financial paperwork you no longer need.
